Axel-In-Charge: "Secret Wars" Jam Session Talking "A-Force," "Ultimate End" and More
The latest bit of casting news for Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake is interesting both for who may be filling the role and what it means for the story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Kenneth Williams, who earned acclaim as Omar Little on The Wire and Albert “Chalky” White on Boardwalk Empire, is in negotiations to play Alex Murphy’s partner.
That’s right, Murphy’s partner will be a man. In the original sci-fi trilogy, Nancy Allen deftly portrayed first Murphy’s and then Robo’s partner. According to the trade paper, Williams’ character also will be close with Murphy’s family.
If he does sign up, Williams will join a stellar cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel and Jackie Earle Haley. The film will start filming in September for an Aug. 9, 2013, release.
