"Rowdy" Roddy Piper Reported Dead at 61
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ’80s sitcom property has been picked up for production at Sony Animation. The Smurfs producer Jordan Kerner is set to play the same role on this film along with series creators Tom Patchett and Paul Fusco, who was both the voice and hands behind the original puppet.
ALF, which aired on NBC from 1986 and 1990 on NBC, centered on a furry, obnoxious alien from the planet Melmac who crash-landed on Earth and lived with the middle-class Tanner family. Crass and cat-devouring, ALF became a pop-culture icon, even going on to spawn an animated series and a comic book. Aside from a brief dusting off for the 2004 ALF’s Hit Talk Show on TV Land, the puppet hasn’t seen a lot of action lately.
The plan is for the film to be along the lines of The Smurfs or the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, employing a mix of CGI and live action to resurrect ALF.
