Could AMC’s The Walking Dead
Shuffle Onto the Big Screen?

While this should be marked “rumor” in enormous flashing letters, Bloody Disgusting contends AMC executives are considering the possibility of a Walking Dead feature film that would likely arrive in theaters following the conclusion of the hit series.

Considering the slow, even plodding, pace of the television show and the long-term narrative of the source material — the Robert Kirkman/Charlie Adlard comic is at 100 issues, with no end in sight — a relatively brisk two-hour movie may seem a bit daunting, or at least limiting. But the website notes that The Walking Dead was shopped around as a film before it landed at the cable network.

And it certainly wouldn’t be the only time a television series has been continued on the big screen; shows ranging from Firefly and The X-Files to Sex and the City and Twin Peaks have done so, with varied degrees of success.

However, even if there is any truth to this rumor, a movie would likely be several years away. A ratings hit, The Walking Dead begins its third season in October; it’s doubtful AMC is in any hurry to rush the series toward its conclusion.

I would hope not… It’s just not made for the big screen.

    I agree.
The Walking Dead is ongoing, and would probably never end.

But, if the ratings for the tv series plummet, then have no fear that AMC will cancel the series.

They could always do a prequel film showing what happened between Rick’s shooting and when he woke up.

What is the standard for a news site deciding whether it will write a full article? I’m referring to actual information. If you say “rumor in enormous flashing letters” doesn’t that mean BS?

They should make it into a comic book.
