Sherlock Co-Creator Steven Moffat Drops Three Clues For Season 3

Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat delivered three one-word clues on Twitter this morning to the third season of the hit U.K. drama, sending the 21st-century incarnation of the Baker Street Irregulars poring through their volumes of Arthur Conan Doyle.

While ahead of Season 2 he dropped “Woman. Hound. Fall,” signaling adaptations of “A Scandal in Bohemia,” The Hound of the Baskervilles and “The Final Problem,” today Moffat offered “Rat. Wedding. Bow.” suggests “Rat” refers to The Giant Rat of Sumatra,” which is merely mentioned by Dr. Watson in “The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire,” while “Bow” is an obvious nod to “His Last Bow.” “Wedding” is a bit trickier; Tor theorizes it alludes to either “The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax” or “The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist,” but Deadline places money on “The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor.”

The third season of Sherlock, which again stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is expected to begin shooting in January and debut in August 2013.

Honestly, i couldn’t give a shit about anything other than how exactly they’re going to retcon the whole “Sherlock falling off a bloody rooftop” thing.

“Wedding” may not be a direct allusion to any single story.  Maybe we’ll see Watson get married.  But to do that, we’d need to meet his wife, which of course would imply an adaptation of The Sign of Four…

Their not going retcon it and they already showed Sherlock faked his death, but not how he did it.

Wedding obviously points to The Sign of the Four. It’s the one where John meets Mary Morstan, his future wife.
