EXCLUSIVE: Battleworld Gets Dangerous in Marvel's July 2015 Solicitations
It’s no secret that Thor: The Dark World is going to feature the titular Marvel superhero facing off against the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. But what will Svartalfheim actually look like?
We might have gotten our first tease of the Dark Elves’ homeland in some new photos from the Bourne Wood set of the Thor sequel. The images were posted by Super Hero Hype and, although they don’t include much in the way of spoilers, they do show a world markedly different from anything we saw in 2011’s Thor.
It’s unclear if this set is supposed to be Svartalfheim or somewhere else entirely. Regardless, it’s clearly a location that’s new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Chris Hemsworth promised back in May. At least we we can tell that this new area introduced in Thor: The Dark World will look pretty great.
A fan of Super Hero Hype sent over the images and included these details about them: “Thor 2 pics attached from Bourne woods, UK. Compact camera is a bit crap and security won’t let me get much closer but they’re OK. Filming due to start in 2 weeks. Will send some more before then.”
News about Thor 2 being set to film in Bourne Wood broke at the end of July. Local Lincolnshire residents received a letter informing them that a movie called “Thursday Mourning” would be shooting nearby in August and September. Based on the information included in the letter, it didn’t take long for fans to realize that the movie actually was Thor: The Dark World.
“We will be establishing a fictional village set in another realm, with yurts and village like dressing in the bowl. The sequence involves a battle between two kingdoms, ending in our comic book hero arriving to save the day,” the letter read. “The sequence will involve approximately 300 extras who will arrive in the early hours prior to call time to go through costume and makeup.”
Thor: The Dark World is due in theaters on Nov. 8, 2013. Directed by Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor, it stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Zachary Levi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and, potentially, former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston.
