Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci Take Flight With Dragonology

Two of the busiest guys in Hollywood happen to be among the biggest genre writers and producers around.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who have worked on everything from Fringe and Transformers to Cowboys and Aliens and Star Trek, will add another geeky property to their resume with Universal Pictures’ Dragonology. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo will produce a film based on the popular children’s franchise.

Dragonology is a series of books written by the fictional Dr. Ernest Drake positing that dragons really do exist and have for centuries. The British series debuted in 2003 and has been going strong since, with several books, model kits and toys based around the different types of dragons.

Universal snatched up the film rights in 2008, with Leonard Hartman penning a draft. He will serve as a producer along with Kurtzman and Orci, who looking at writers and directors to tackle the project. According to the trade paper, the film “revolves around a team of dragonologists who embark on a quest to avert a plot to use the world’s remaining dragons to wipe out humanity.”
