Harry Shearer To Return To "The Simpsons"
When we learned that Guy Pearce was taking the role of Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3, we assumed — based on the movie’s “Extremis” connection — that it would be a pretty big part. But if Pearce is to be believed, we actually won’t be seeing him that much in the Marvel sequel.
In an interview with Vulture while promoting his new movie Lawless, Pearce referred to his role as “really kind of cameo stuff.” Hopefully, that just means we’ll be getting that much more of — spoiler! — Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin.
“Based on the first two movies, there’s a great chemistry between Robert [Downey Jr.] and Gwyneth [Paltrow], and I just think the films have a fun, joyful sort of quality about them. I’ve just enjoyed them. So I just felt like I wanted to be a part of this,” Pearce said. He added about his small role, “I mean, on some level, it’s tricky because you feel like a bit of an outsider. You don’t really live the experience that you do when you’re there all day every day with everybody. But at the same time, it can be more fun sometimes because you’re just working in concentrated spurts.”
He also explained why he turned down the part of Daredevil a decade ago: He just really didn’t want to be in that movie.
“The thing about Daredevil was that it was the role of Daredevil [that I didn’t want to do],” he said. “It was 10 years ago. I’ve probably loosened up, and I feel a little more experimental in what I’ll take on these days, but I still don’t know that I would want to play the superhero myself, since I’m playing a different kind of character in this film.”
Directed by Shane Black from a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce (No Heroics), Iron Man 3 is loosely based on the 2005-2006 “Extremis” story arc by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov in which a criminal is injected with a nanotechnological drug created by the U.S. military in an attempt to replicate the Super-Soldier Serum, triggering a mutation that grants him superhuman abilities.
Opening May 3, 2013, the film stars returning cast members Downey, Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau, joined by Pearce, Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton.
