Being Developed For Television
Debuting in 1977 with The Sword of Shannara, the novels are set hundreds of years after the destruction of our civilization, in a world that’s reverted to a medieval state. There the Shannara family, Elven nobles empowered with an ancient magic whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the planet. The 20th book in the series was only recently released; two more will be published next year.
The first season of the TV series would be based on the second novel, The Elfstones of Shannara.
“Partnering with Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films on adapting the Shannara saga for television is an exciting prospect,” Brooks said in a statement. “Everything about both companies suggests the result will be one that both old and new fans of the books will readily embrace. I am committed to doing everything I can to help make this happen.”
Dan Farah of Farah Films and Stewart Till of Sonar Entertainment will executive produce. They plan to recruit a showrunner and director before shopping Shannara to networks.
