Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
With the promise of DC Comics villains like Deadshot, China White and Deathstroke, The CW’s Arrow appears to be stacking the deck against its bow-wielding hero. But it turns out that’s barely the beginning for the superhero drama’s rogues gallery.
According to Zap2It, Copper and Being Human actor Kyle Schmid has been cast as Ace, a member of the Royal Flush Gang, the playing card-themed team of criminals that’s been a mainstay of the DC Universe since 1966. The group will debut in Arrow‘s sixth episode, titled “Legacies,” which the website’s sources contend involve “a major bank robbery, with a crowd of hostages eventually leaving the building … wearing playing card masks.”
Presumably we’ll hear soon who will play the Royal Flush Gang’s other members: King, Queen, Jack, Ten and, in some versions, Wild Card.
Developed by Green Lantern screenwriters Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti and Fringe co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, Arrow centers on wealthy young bad boy Oliver Queen, who after being marooned on a remote island for five years returns to Starling City with a mastery of the bow and a determination to make a difference.
The series stars Stephen Amell (Hung) as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy Merlyn, Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Melrose Place) as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey (Dexter) as John Diggle, Willa Holland (The O.C.) as Thea Queen, Susanna Thompson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne (24) as Detective Quentin Lance.
Arrow premieres Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
