Neil Marshall to Direct An Episode
of Starz’s Pirate Drama Black Sails
Director Neil Marshall has made a name for himself by bringing something unique as he hops from genre to genre. He started off with Dog Soldiers, a horror film that set British soldiers against werewolves, before moving on to the confined horror of The Descent. He followed those with the post-apocalyptic Doomsday and the Roman adventure Centurion. Most recently, he directed the acclaimed “Blackwater” episode of HBO’s hit Game of Thrones. So, what’s next? Why pirates, of course.
Variety reports Marshall has signed on to direct the first episode of the upcoming Starz series Black Sails. Executive produced by Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes, the period drama follows the adventures of Captain Flint and his crew 20 years before the events of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. The series is expected to begin shooting in Cape Town, South Africa later this year with an intent to air eight episodes of the high seas show in 2014.
