Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
The marketing deluge for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey continues. Today New Line Cinema rolled out four new character banners to tease the upcoming fantasy film. The images included on each showcase scenes of the film: Bilbo and the Dwarves in the Shire, the group heading on their journey through Mirkwood, Bilbo’s encounter with Gollum, and Gandalf’s arrival at Bilbo’s home.
Of course, there’s plenty more we’re looking forward to seeing in the film. It’s been teased that Smaug’s eye will be one of the last shots of the movie, and we’re dying to get our first look at The Hobbit‘s dragon. There’s also Bilbo’s showdown with the trolls, which should be a major action scene in this flick. And since Bilbo and company’s escape from the goblins is likely pushed back until the second Hobbit film, The Desolation of Smaug, our guess is that will be made into a banner for that project.
Jackson’s three-movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy novel stars Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, and features returning Lord of the Rings stars Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and Andy Serkis. The ensemble cast also includes Richard Armitage, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Barry Humphries, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Evangeline Lilly, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas and Aidan Turner.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens Dec. 14, followed by The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on Dec. 13, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again on July 18, 2014.
