<i>Creature From the Black Lagoon</i> <br />Stalks Remake Writer For New Film

The Gill-man will swim again in the Universal Pictures remake of its 1954 horror film The Creature from the Black Lagoon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has put into the early stages of production by hiring David Kajganich to write the script.

Kajganich has made a name for himself as the horror-remake guy in Hollywood, having updated Invasion of Body Snatchers into The Invasion, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. That landed him gigs re-doing movies based on Stephen King stories Pet Sematary and It that are in production at Warner Bros.

The 1954 film didn’t spawn sequels like pals Dracula and Frankenstein, but it did garnered plenty of fans who would go on to become big players in Hollywood. People like John Landis, John Carpenter, Ivan Reitman, Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Breck Eisner and Gary Ross — whose father Arthur A. Ross co-wrote the original film — have all expressed interest in remaking the film over the past 30 years or so.

The remake does not have a director attached, but Kajganich is reportedly starting from scratch with his script about a prehistoric underwater creature encountering modern day-scientists.

It DIDN’T spawn sequels?  What about Revenge of the Creature, and The Creature Walks Among us?  Those along with the original film were released as part of Universal’s “Legacy” series for the Universal Monsters.  Please check your facts more carefully in the future.

”Kajganich is reportedly starting from scratch with his script about a prehistoric underwater creature encountering modern day-scientists”GOOD GOOD VERY GOOD!!!the previous scripts that have been thrown about said they changed the gillmans origin to being caused by pollution (ala humanoids from the Deep) and i DO NOT WANT the origin changed, and i dont want it mimicing the origin of a film that was a rip off/homage to the original black lagoon

I hope the design of the creature is different from the original but at the same time has a humanoid or at least semi-humanoid body structure.
