Tom Cruise Has Nothing to Lose in Jack Reacher Theatrical Trailer

Yahoo! Movies has premiered the first theatrical trailer for Jack Reacher, Christopher McQuarrie’s adaptation of Lee Child’s 2005 crime novel One Shot, starring Tom Cruise in the title role.

The character, who’s appeared in some 17 books to date, is a stoic military police officer turned drifter with a knack for hand-to-hand combat, a knowledge of weaponry, and an apparent lack of “the remorse gene.”

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

The film, which opens Dec. 21, also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Werner Herzog and Richard Jenkins.

Well, aside from the fact that Jack Reacher is 6’6″(is that, like, a foot taller than Cruise?), he almost NEVER drives when he can help it, and then not very well, I guess it’ll be OK.

They could always change the name of the picture to Get Shorty 2

“Jack Reacher?” No one thought this was a suspect name for a character? Let alone a movie?

I agree. It’s like ‘John Carter’ in that it evokes nothing in the viewer, if they have no prior knowledge of the book it is based on.
