Axel-In-Charge: Navigating the "Civil War II" Landscape, Bringing DMC to Marvel
New photos from the Sydney, Australia, set of The Wolverine provide a look at Hugh Jackman as a claw-wielding Logan, and a gaggle of ninjas — all in a wintertime scene. The images come from the Daily Telegraph, which has more.
According to the newspaper, the sequence involves Wolverine riding atop a snowplow through a Japanese village while ninjas attack him from the rooftops.
Directed by James Mangold, The Wolverine is based in part on the 1982 Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, which found Logan battling ninjas and the politics of the Tokyo criminal underworld for the heart of his ex-lover, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord.
Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) recently teased that the 3D Fox film as “Japanese noir picture with tentpole action in it” and underscored The Wolverine takes place outside the continuity established in the studio’s previous X-Men movies. “I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it,” he said.
Jackman is joined by Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee. The Wolverine opens July 26, 2013.
