Nic Cage Enlists in Expendables 3

Sylvester Stallone has a big vision when it comes to casting The Expendables series. After an impressive roster in the first film, he added names like Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins for the second, but he’s not finished yet. For The Expendables 3, he has his sights set on Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and the return of Mickey Rourke.

“We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two,” Stallone told the Spanish newspaper El Pais (via Collider). “We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga.”

Most of the names on the above list have been mentioned before, but this is confirmation of Cage’s involvement. He’s also signed on to headline a big-budget, pop corn version of the Left Behind books.

Rourke’s involvement remains sketchy. When the project was first announced, producer Avi Lerner said he’d like to see Rourke return even though his character’s death is what sets the sequel into motion. In early October, Rourke himself addressed rumors of his involvement in the film by saying, “They’re making shit up.”

I refuse to care abut this movie until we see a Bruce Lee hologram.

These movies started as a celebration of the 80’s action movie genre. The muscle-bound, stoic, but always ready to throw out a witty retort, hero.

Nic Cage, and Wesley Snipes are not from this time period – they’re strictly 90’s.  Bruce Lee was never from this genre either.

If they want to stay true to the original premise they have to bring back Carl Weathers, or Mr T, not Wesley Snipes. Even Eddie Murphy would be more logical than him.

What they need to do is start digging up the 80’s villains like Alan Rickman, Craig T Nelson, Lance Henrickson, etc to team up and battle their old foes.  That would bring it back to its original design
