First Image Debuts of Tom Cruise in Liman’s All You Need Is Kill

Boom goes the dynamite in this first image of Tom Cruise from All You Need Is Kill. The still, first posted on the Japanese news site Saknei Sports and then picked up by Anime News Network, features the star decked out in his battle armor as he runs away from an explosion.

The film is based on a Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka that’s a kind of Groundhog Day/alien-invasion mash-up. The book’s hero Keiji Kiriya (renamed Bill Cage in the film) finds himself fighting alien invaders called Mimics and dying. But, the next thing he knows, he’s re-living that day over and over again until he can figure out a way to survive and defeat his enemies.

Doug Liman who directed Jumper and The Bourne Identity is helming the project which also stars Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. All You Need is Kill is set for a March 14, 2014 release from Warner Bros.

That picture may be the most plausible looking powered exoskeleton I’ve ever seen from Hollywood. Still it doesn’t look that cool, which is why Hollywood always uses impractical designs.
