Rumor Alert: Darth Vader Rising Again For Star Wars: Episode VII?

The original Star Wars movies featured Darth Vader as a tragic villain. The Star Wars prequels delved into what turned young Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side. So what will the new trilogy be without our favorite Dark Lord of the Sith?

According to a new rumor, Disney has been asking the same question. While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are expected to reprise their roles, what about the most iconic figure in the Star Wars universe? A new report claims the Mouse House is trying to figure out a way to resurrect Darth Vader and have him be a part of the sequels.

“He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible,” a “film mole” tells British tabloid Express. “The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.”

The source adds, “This is science fiction, remember. Darth Vader will rise from the ashes.”

Hopefully that’s not literally how it’s going to happen, but we don’t doubt that Disney is looking to bring back Darth Vader. Remember what Yogurt told us in Spaceballs? This is all about merchandising, and Star Wars: Episode VII, like the Star Wars prequels before it, is just the real-life equivalent of Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

So how will Disney bring back Vader? Your guess is as good as ours. We really hope nothing pans out with this rumor since it’s not from an especially trustworthy source, but at the same time we wouldn’t put this news past the studio.

    i’m not cool with it.

Would prefer to see Anakin serving the advisory function of the spectral Obi-Wan going forward. Would seem the most appropriate way to honor his journey, while still giving a nod to Vader’s inclusion in the cast.

Anakins ghost I’m fine with. Vader I’m not. Virtually impossible to replace Vader? Nonsense. Thrawn replaced him just fine.

I can’t believe how much traction this “story” seems to have. It’s just rumor and speculation at this admittedly no more or less valid or invalid then all the other speculation that can be found on the internet. But for some reason this is seems  to have legs even though it’s from a “not especially trustworthy source. I’m with the consensus an appearance from a Force Ghost Anakin cool. A resurrected Vader? Not so cool.

Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money???

I want to know what happened to Spaceballs 3 The Search for Part 2, would have been more true to the franchise.  By the way settle down, I know this is a joke he was making.  But growing up for some reason the joke of my time was the Spaceballs 3 one.

Resurrecting Vader means that the changed and saved Anakin goes back to being evil from the dead.  Which based on how lame and self centered the character was in the new trilogy, would actually make sense.  I can see it now, he’s miffed because once in the force side of life he’s still not on the council there and returns to show everyone he should be.  By taking the mantle of the burnt up Vader suit and coming back.  Or wait they will make clones, but then again if you did that you might as well do the Thrawn trilogy and like W4361 said, Thrawn replaced him just fine and I actually think it would be better than any treatment Lucas gave it in the first place.

I’m a film mole also, which means I send anonymous messages and make shit up. So Darth Vader will return and he’ll be played by Ryan Reynolds. Also Helen Mirren will portray C3P0. Isn’t making stuff up cool?

Who says it has to be Anakin Skywalker under the Darth Vader mask?

  • http://twitter.com/ToddCMatthy Todd Matthy

Who is the source? The script hasn’t even been written yet.

  • BeastieRunner

Resurrecting Vader will kill the franchise. That’s not even on par with all the crap the prequels get. I doubt they want that much backlash. Definitely a rumor or at the minimum, a temperature gauge rumor.

More importantly, what’s the point? Just make another bad ass in a suit,

     It’s
a rumor. A rumor. A RUMOR. A rumor. Do you people understand this?
It is one speculation by an unnamed source quoted in a disreputable
British tabloid. And CBR is calling this “news.” Don’t get your
knickers all up in a twist, and CBR, be more
responsible, especially when you’re reporting a rumor and calling it
“news” to a bunch of kneejerk fanboys who want to spend the next three
years poisoning the possibility, the PROBABILITY, that Ep 7 will be a
    great film.

ummmm no.  Unless its flashbacks or holo recordings

  • mdk

Well, I guess my decision is made… I will NOT be seeing ANY of the Mickey Wars sequels!

  • Daniel B

Yeah, I know the excitement is still new from the announcement of the new trilogy and there is a desire to read every little rumor/bit of news that leaks out there (I’m just as guilty). I think it’s time to pull back, take a breath, and put on your critical thinking caps though. This sounds like some crap that I’d see posted on Supershadow’s website… Not reliable at all and I get the feeling that Disney is looking to make peace with Star Wars fans after being disappointed overall with the prequel trilogy. This would be burning a bridge before it’s even barely started being built, I do like the idea of Anakin playing a sort of Obi-Wan kind of role in the new movies though!

    Clone?

  • Cdegarnham

It’d be fine with me if it was to be some flashbacks from before and inbetween the original movies of what Vader went through, but he couldn’t be resurrected. Keep him as a ghost.

Come to think of it there is something strange about Anakin remember in episode 1 his mother said he was just born, he had no father. Does that mean he was a virgin birth? Maybe that has something to do with it. But still how can Anakin become bad again if he comes back ……be tempted again ? but that not be very good story would it?…… Maybe It will have something to do with Luke’s son and he will become Darth Vader.
