FX Renews American Horror Story

After last night’s epic American Horror Story: Asylum episode “I Am Anne Frank: Part 2,” it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that FX has renewed the horror series for a third season.

The television network announced today it has ordered the “next book” in the American Horror Story tale, and will have another 13 episodes next season. The third season, which will follow the first two miniseries’ formats and tell a new story with new characters while reusing some of the same actors, will film next summer and premiere in fall 2013.

Speaking of returning actors, Jessica Lange has been confirmed for Season 3. She played Constance Langdon in AHS Season 1 and is portraying Sister Jude in Asylum. Our expectation is that Evan Peters, Lily Rabe and (hopefully) Zachary Quinto will all be back as well, as they all have had major roles in both seasons thus far.

Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck haven’t announced the name of this new season or what it will be about. Season 1 told the story of Murder House and was ultimately a ghost story, whereas Season 2 takes place in a mental asylum called Briarcliff and deals with demonic possessions, aliens, Nazis and a serial killer named Bloody Face.

“The American Horror Story anthology is a labor of love for all of us and we could not be prouder of the work our brilliant company of actors and everyone on the production team is doing this year,” Murphy said in a statement. “To John and our friends at FX and Dana Walden and Gary Newman at 20th, we thank you for your vote of confidence — and to our loyal audience, keep watching!”

Amerian Horror Story: Asylum airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

More than anything this season seems to be about science vs. religion and the evils and goods of both.  Very good so far.

Even though I’m pleased that AHS has been renewed for a third season; I was kind of worried that this season has been a little bit darker, creepier, and sexier than the first to hook the viewers in.

How they’re going to top this season makes me shudder.
