Christopher McQuarrie Eyed to Helm Mission: Impossible 5
Oscar-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie, who’s collaborated with Tom Cruise on such films as Valkyrie, the upcoming All You Need Is Kill and, also as director, Jack Reacher, is the top choice to helm the fifth Mission: Impossible movie.
Deadline reports that while Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions want to hire writers before anything is made official, McQuarrie is who Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams want.
The Brad Bird-directed Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol grossed nearly $695 million, making the next installment of the franchise a priority for the studio. Although Cruise has remained tight-lip about the potential plot, he teased just last month that, “We’re already working on different images. Talking conceptually. I love traveling around promoting different movies because I’m always looking at different places, and I always walk around to see the city. I look at architecture, subways … coming up with different sequences.”
Jack Reacher, McQuarrie’s adaptation of Lee Child’s 2005 crime novel One Shot, opens Dec . 26.
