Russo Brothers: "Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2" to be Retitled
Move over Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell, because there’s a new video-game adaptation coming to town. Universal Pictures has tapped a new writer to work on its Asteroids adaptation, which is coming to life thanks to the efforts of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
“Asteroids?” you might ask yourself. “That game I used to play on my Atari back in the ’80s?” Yes, that one and only game that came out in 1979 and helped launch the Golden Age of Arcade Games will eventually be heading to a movie theater near you.
Variety is reporting that The Last Legion scribe Jez Butterworth is the newest name to be assigned to the Asteroids movie. Before him, both Matt Lopez and Evan Spiliotopoulos took stabs at the script.
Considering the success of Wreck-It Ralph, it’s no surprise that Universal is pushing forward with Asteroids. It will be interesting to see what the studio does with the property considering the premise of that game is simply destroying asteroids and flying saucers with your space ship. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to imagine that the studio could turn this into a big budget alien invasion movie.
