ABC Torpedoes Last Resort, Shutters 666 Park Avenue

ABC has canceled its freshman dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue. According to The Hollywood Reporter, neither series lived up to the network’s hopes, ratings-wise. Interestingly, both shows had recent orders for two more episodes, bumping each one up to 13 total. All 13 episodes will air.

Last Resort followed a nuclear sub crew as they decided to secede from the nation after an attack from their own government. The action drama was created by The Shield‘s Shawn Ryan and Karl Gajdusek, and stars Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman. Ryan already has two other projects in the works: Beverly Hills Cop at CBS and a U.S. marshals series at TNT.

666 Park Avenue stars Vanessa Williams, Terry O’Quinn, Dave Annable and Rachael Taylor as tenants of a mysterious, possibly supernaturally tinged upscale residence in New York City.

One possible bright side for fans of both shows is that, because the network ordered two more episodes of each, they might actually have specific end points, unlike a lot of other series that don’t get picked up for full seasons.

That sucks!!  “Last Resort” is a really good show!  I can’t imagine how it would have sustained itself as a series, but I hope that they do manage to wrap up the story.

This is why I do not care for ABC because when I actually start to like a show from their network it gets cancelled. These were the only two shows that I watched from them and they cancel them but yet there are idiots that make dancing with the stars a hit because nothing is as entertaining as watching washed up celebrities and retired sports stars dance.

I think Last Resort would have had a better chance on a cable network like TNT or USA. On ABC, CBS, or NBC, I really didn’t see it lasting for more than a season and only because it was probably was more expensive than most dramas. It really had to be one of the top ten-rated shows to survive, IMO…

Maybe I’m a horrible person, but Last Resort put me to sleep twice.

I had a strong feeling Last Resort would go away real quick, the premise just didn’t sound like it could be a long running series, but I never watched it so that’s only based on impressions.
