Time Lord Vs. Snowmen in Trailer For Doctor Who Christmas Special

Doctor Who is wishing you a very scary Christmas in the upcoming episode, “The Snowmen.” The BBC series’ Christmas special will air Dec. 25 on BBC and BBC America, and a first trailer for the episode shows that, this year, Christmas won’t be all about mistletoe and presents.

The trailer reintroduces fans to Jenna-Louise Coleman, who appeared in the season premiere as Oswin Oswald but here is the Doctor’s new companion Clara. Confused? It becomes pretty clear in the trailer that she already has a general idea of who he is before they cross paths in “The Snowmen.”

The Doctor and Clara team up to try to save Christmas from the episode’s villain, Doctor Simeon (Richard E. Grant). He seems to be trying to raise a snowmen army that somehow feeds on the fear of those around them.

“For this year’s Christmas special we have the wonderfully villainous Richard E Grant as Doctor Simeon,” Matt Smith said in a statement. “As well as lizards, Victorian assassins and deranged warriors from the future, who all return to convince the Doctor that he should board the TARDIS again and save the world. Add to that Jenna-Louise Coleman and so begins the Christmas Special 2012. I hope everyone enjoys it!”

Executive producer Steven Moffat added, “The Doctor at Christmas is one of my favorite things — but this year it’s different. He’s lost Amy and Rory to the Weeping Angels, and he’s not in a good place: in fact, he’s Scrooge. He’s withdrawn from the world and no longer cares what happens to it. So when all of humanity hangs in the balance, can anyone persuade a tired and heartbroken Doctor that it’s time to return to the good fight. Enter Jenna-Louise Coleman…”

So Rory and his narcissistic ball and chain were the first companions so wonderful their loss made the Doctor give up?   I hope I like the next show runner better…

No, it’s cause he lost Rose, Martha and Donna. And he tried to protect Amy and Rory but he STILL lost them. And knowing he’s gonna lose River at some point….at some point he’s gonna break.

Also every Doctor is different. Tenth Doctor was capable to love Rose, the Eleventh probably wouldn’t. So any other Doctor would be fine with loss of companions, but Eleventh is different so that’s his reaction.

He lets himself be more selfish this one time and try to hold on to them, he was forced to let them go this time.
