Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Matt Damon speaks softly and carries a big gun in this new image from Elysium, the upcoming sci-fi film from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. Here’s the plot of the Sony production as it was revealed back in July:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government offcial, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Really, that’s all we know about this film. Only one other image has been revealed, but both feature the same thing: bald, mechanically enhanced Matt Damon carrying a big ol’ gun. Some folks at Comic-Con International got a look at footage, but they’re the only ones outside the industry to check it out. After some RoboCop-related shuffling, Elysium is now scheduled to debut on Aug. 9, 2013.
Here’s the important question, though: Which mech-enhanced Hollywood star would you take in a fight, Elysium‘s Matt Damon or All You Need is Kill‘s Tom Cruise?
