Star Trek Into Darkness Poster Spotlights Benedict Cumberbatch

Paramount Pictures has released a teaser poster for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness that some have already found strikingly familiar to the first poster for The Dark Knight Rises, which depicted the crumbling towers of Gotham City forming the bat-symbol. Here, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious villain — “an unstoppable force of terror,” we’re told — helping to form the outline of the Starfleet insignia created from the ruins of a still-burning building (in London, apparently).

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens May 17, 2013, also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

    Hello, Dark Knight Rises poster!

I don’t like this poster.  The outfit the dude is wearing doesn’t really jibe with Star Trek fashion.  Other than the Starfleet symbol, nothing in the poster says Star Trek to me. Even the words “Star Trek” are barely visible compared to “Into Darkness.”
