Axel-In-Charge: Waid & Samnee on "Black Widow" and the Dawn of the All-New, All-Different Era
Johnny Depp could actually get his Don Quixote movie after all.
Deadline reports Disney has just closed a deal for an untitled pitch that “is best described as a modern re-imagining of Don Quixote.” The pitch was written by Steve Pink and Jeff Morris, and produced by Depp and Christi Dembrowski’s Infinitum Nihil. That’s all we have to go on so far.
Don Quixote seems to be something of a passion project for Depp. He and Terry Gilliam had long been planning to make a movie called The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which was originally supposed to head into production in 2000. That was delayed because Jean Rochefort, the actor cast as Don Quixote, was seriously injured, and the entire production was soon cancelled. The project later was revived in 2008, but it was revealed in 2010 that funding had collapsed on the movie. Who knows, though: Maybe Gilliam would want to try to get involved in this modern retelling now?
