Universal Options "The Wicked + The Divine" for TV Adaptation
Beyond the fact that yet another writer is taking a crack at Legendary Pictures’ revival of Godzilla, we haven’t heard much about the project since it was announced at Comic-Con International. Fortunately the team at Legendary is still slaving a way, because the movie is set to start filming in the spring.
“We’re planning to film in March,” producer Dan Lin told Collider. “We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth thanks to Thomas Tull’s help he took over a whole stage on the Warner Bros. lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla.”
He continued, “He had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?”
That’s an interesting premise to be sure, but that’s all Lin is giving for now. “I don’t want to give any plot details right now; I want you guys to be surprised,” he said.
Directed by Edwards (Monsters) and written by people including David Callahan, David Goyer and Max Borenstein, Godzilla is being rewritten by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce. The film is set to debut from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. on May 16, 2014.
