"Ghostbusters": 11 Things the Sequel Needs to Do to Succeed
Now that Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills has distribution, it also has a release date. So does Alfonso Cuaron’s long-delayed Gravity, which finally, finally, finally will make its debut later this year.
First up: Machete Kills. The film will hit theaters Sept. 13, the same day as I, Frankenstein and Battle of the Year. Considering the love the first film got and this one’s colorful array of stars, we doubt those movies will be much competition.
Then there’s Gravity, which comes out less than a month later on Oct. 4. That posits this movie as being something of a horror film due to the fact it’s being released near Halloween. Considering the fact that the movie is supposed to be set in “the terrifying expanse of space,” it could be that Gravity will thrive in this release slot. It’s going up against Delivery Man, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Paranoia and the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
According to Open Road, the follow-up to 2010’s Machete finds the lead character “recruited by the president of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man: He must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.” The film stars Danny Trejo, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Michelle Rodriguez and Mel Gibson.
In Gravity, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as two survivors of an accident aboard a space station. It’s been praised by Guillermo del Toro as “pushing a new boundary in filmmaking, completely mind-blowing.”
