Doctor Who’s Alex Kingston
Joins Arrow as Dinah Lance
River Song is coming to Starling City.
According to EW.com, Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston will join the cast of The CW’s Arrow in a recurring guest role as Dinah Lance, the mother of Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and the ex-wife of Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne). She’ll apparently be resurfacing later this season to make amends with the family she abandoned following the death of her daughter in the shipwreck that left billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) stranded on an island for five years.
DC Comics will naturally recognize Dinah Lance as yet another nod to the superheroine Black Canary, frequent partner and longtime love interest. Dinah Drake Lance was the alter ego of the Golden Age Black Canary, who married a Gotham City police detective named Larry Lance, while Dinah Laurel Lance was her daughter, the modern-era Black Canary.
Kingston will be the second Doctor Who veteran to appear on The CW’s breakout superhero drama: John Barrowman, who played Capt. Jack Harkness on the British sci-fi series and its spinoff Torchwood, has a recurring role as sinister businessman Malcolm Merlyn, who moonlights as the Dark Archer.
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
