Rumor: Marvel Wants Sandler and Carrey For Guardians of the Galaxy

Another day, another batch of Guardians of the Galaxy rumors. The latest one seems decidedly unlikely, as it’s being reported that Marvel is asking about the availability of Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey for the upcoming space adventure.

Latino Review has the scoop, although the site don’t know what roles Sandler or Carrey would be up for. The guess is Rocket Raccoon or Groot, and we’d have to agree, but it seems strange to have such a big name play in that role when lesser-known actors are being considered for the other Guardians.

This could be just the kind of role Carrey is looking for. He’s already taken a part in Kick-Ass 2, so jumping on board the Marvel train would be a natural next step. Sandler could definitely use a career reboot as well, though we don’t know if we’d like to see this be the film he uses to do so.

Then again, if we’re going off the above concept art, it could be that whoever is chosen for Rocket Raccoon is only expected to lend their voice for the role. If that’s the case, then a recognizable comedian like Sandler or Carrey could be perfect for the role.

The report also includes a list of new contenders for the role of Star-Lord that are slightly more believable. Apparently Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet are reading for the part, but no offers have been made yet. They’ll join the long list that supposedly include John Krasinski, Zachary Levi, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne and Joel Edgerton. Meanwhile, Isaiah Mustafah, Dave Batista and Brian Patrick Wade are reportedly reading for Drax the Destroyer.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is due out on Aug. 1, 2014.

I’m really not going to be surprised if we find out soon that Iron Man will appear in guardians (basing this off of the upcoming comic from McNiven and how much of a marketing hurdle it will be to convey that Guardians takes place in the Marvel Universe without completely giving away something major in the film) – If I was running the marketing team in order to ensure that people who don’t know ANYTHING about guardians come to see the film I would be leaning heavily on Avengers 2. Hell just make the subtitle Guardians of the Galaxy: Prelude to Avengers 2. Otherwise i’m a little worried that this movie might not find an audience.

I’m a huge fan of the comic, and cosmic marvel in general but i’ve said this a couple of times on this site that I know alot of comic readers and only a handful read Guardians of the Galaxy. So even die hard Marvel fans don’t necessarily understand what the Korvac Saga is, or Annihilation, or Thanos Imperitive.

On other sites the comments are FLOODED with pre-hatred for mainly Rocket Racoon (who is an awesome character). A lot of people can’t wrap their head around how a talking racoon can exist in the same universe as Iron Man and Captain America. And i’m hoping not only Rocket appears but Cosmo the telepathic golden retriever cosmonaut.

Rocket Raccoon was portrayed as sporting a British accent in Marvel vs. Capcom 3; surely that should be an indication of what Marvel will be shooting for in the big screen version?

David Jason would be perfick for the role.  :D

if Bob Haskins would come out of retirement I think he would be perfect, or andy serkis

If it was me, I’d be wanting Peter Dinklage for Rocket and (through some sound filters) Brian Blessed for Groot. Out of those two I’d far rather get Jim Carrey who can do serious (Eternal Sunshine)  rather than Sandler, the reason Rocket works is that not that he is especially funny in his voice, its that he has the personality/attitude of a traditional quipping badass, but is a small fluffy animal.

Isaiah Mustafah would be awesome as Drax. Look at Thanos… now back to me. Look at Nova…now back to me.

Refer to: Reign Over Me…that ish is serious.

but yes I agree with Carrey over Sandler all day!
