<i>Source Code’s</i> Duncan Jones <br />Signs on to <i>World of Warcraft</i>

The World of Warcraft just moved one giant step closer to reaching the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures has tapped Duncan Jones to direct a film based on Blizzard’s incredibly popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

Jones broke out with 2009′s Moon, the critically acclaimed sci-fi film starring Sam Rockwell. He followed that up with 2011′s Source Code, a sci-fi action movie with a bigger budget featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan. With each project, Jones has been entrusted with larger budgets; the one for World of Warcraft is expected to be about $100 million.

With a slew of expansions and more than 9 million people playing characters they created themselves, there’s a continent of material to mine. Legendary hired Seventh Son scribe Charles Leavitt to pen a script, but nothing has been said about what the story entails.

I’d go with Peter Jackson but I digress. He is hooked on The Hobbit franchise.

I highly recommend a full CGI movie, the games cinematics are fucking awesome to go from that to live action would be a huge mistake.
