Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Billionaires aren’t usually the most sympathetic characters in the world. But Tony Stark is a super-rich playboy of a different sort. Instead of running around with super-models and getting drunk on the most expensive booze money can buy, he spends much of his time saving the world while wearing high-tech armor. In the Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr.’s Stark finds out exactly what his limits are as he tries to be a hero in the wake of The Avengers.
As anyone who watched the Super Bowl last night — or watched the trailer on Comic Book Resources — will remember, the latest teaser shows Stark having to deal with an impossible situation: 13 people falling from an exploding plane, but the ability to carry only four himself. Hot on the heels of releasing that trailer and the extended version shown on Facebook, Marvel Studios and Disney released a quartet of photos taken from the trailer.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Iron Man 3, starring Downey, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton, opens May 3.
