Walking Dead to Introduce Another ‘Major Character’ From Comic

As anticipation ramps up for Sunday’s midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, Entertainment Weekly has debuted three new images from the episode, titled “The Suicide King.” The photos showcase Andrea restrained by a Woodbury mob, Rick poised to strike, and Merle Dixon hunting down zombies with his metal appendage.

EW also spoke with showrunner Glen Mazzara, who discussed what’s in store for the remainder of Season 3, including the inevitable showdown between Rick’s group and the Governor’s community at Woodbury.

“One of the things I’m excited about is we’re on the path for this showdown, and the Governor and Rick have still not seen each other as we went through those first eight episodes,” Mazzara said. “They know about each other and each one realizes that the other guy can threaten everything that he has spent the past year building. And the Governor is certainly a big threat to Rick and can destroy his entire group, and the Governor sees Rick as a threat that can destroy all of his plans by showing that he was not the most powerful force in this world — that he was unable to protect Woodbury. Rick and Michonne and the group came in and sucker-punched him. So both guys now have a vendetta against each other.”

He also teased developments for fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon and Michonne, stating that Daryl will “have to make choices after discovering … his brother is on the opposing side” and that viewers will have the opportunity to see “what’s underneath [Michonne's] tough exterior.”

Fans of the source material were excited to see Tyreese appear in the midseason finale, and Mazzara teased, “There’s still a major character to appear in the back half, which is very exciting.” However, as evidenced by the deaths so far, the showrunner urged viewers not to get too comfortable.

“There will always be death in The Walking Dead,” he said. “The Governor and Rick are gearing up for war, and without sounding silly, there will be blood.”

The Walking Dead returns Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.

Are they finally introducing Andrea from the comics?  The strong, capable, trusted sharpshooter, as opposed to the completely clueless character currently named Andrea on the show?

I don’t see what major character this could be at this point in the story besides maybe Abraham? I doubt they would introduce Jesus this early.

From what I read they’re bringing Morgan back after all this time.  Could be wrong though.

  • El Barry

They found Jesus in the woods while looking for Sophia.

I doubt it would say introduce when its bringing back an older character although I agree that it’s about time he would be coming back

Amen to that! She has become the slut for the bad guys. Shane might have been in Rick’s group but he definately wasn’t a good guy. To me they should have created another female to do what they are doing with Andrea’s character. Much like Lori on the TV show Andrea is fast becoming unlikeable…

If they were going to introduce Tyreese they should have done so before now. It’s going to seem awfully short if his storylne follows the comics. And yes Morgan should come back but they could delay that some maybe until next season as I think he came back in the comics after the  prison storyline (if I’m correct). Memory is a bit hazy. I know he lasts after the prison though. Jesus is a long way off. At least next season or the season after, can’t wait to see what they do with Negan then….

I kinda hope they just absorb the cannibals arc into the alexandria arc

The walking dead writers are terrible at writing women. They are often depicted as helpless stereotypes. Like when Lori crashed into the one zombie in the entire state in season 2 and flipped her car because you know women can’t drive. Or when Andrea (arguably the strongest female in the comic) is reduced to a blubbering moron because she can’t get rid of her puppy crush on the governor.

I am looking forward to where the show will go after this the prison is brutal but what happens with Abraham and them on the road to d.c. Will be an interesting turn for the tv show also hopefully they don’t use negan too soon the survivors will be awesome but there is so much else that they can do before it would be sweet to have s5 or s6 end with them encountering Jesus or the saviors if Jesus is there but I wouldn’t mind them introducing Jesus to the show early he rules

@matt Jesus is from hilltop my friend and I. Think that person was messing w u as if u remember season 2 there is a walker who resembles Jesus in the woods they kill him and check his stomach contents for sophia

  • Bob

    I thought Mazzara got canned…

  • matt

currently he is residing with Rick and them in Alexandria but regardless thank you for clarifying that

Everybody is forgetting that they also introduced Allen and Donna from the comic book with the Mid Season finale.

I really couldn’t think of any other fan favorites other than Morgan, Abraham, or Negan.  Again unless they leave the prison before then end of the season, I can’t image it would be either Abraham or Negan.
