Jason Momoa in Talks to Play Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy?

After securing Parks & Recreation actor Chris Pratt earlier this month Star-Lord, Marvel may be on its way to recruiting another cast member for director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to Latino Review, which has had a pretty good track record on Marvel scoops, the studio is in negotiations for Conan the Barbarian star Jason Mamoa to play Drax the Destroyer. It was reported last month that “Old Spice guy” Isaiah Mustafa, Generation Kill actor Brian Patrick Wade and former professional wrestler Dave Batista were also testing for the role.

In Marvel comics, Arthur Douglas and his human family were killed by Thanos. Needing a champion capable of defeating the Mad Titan, the cosmic entity Kronos rescued Douglas’ spirit and placed it into the body of Drax the Destroyer, a being with superhuman strength and durability, and the ability to create blasts of cosmic energy.

The 6-foot-4 Momoa, who also appeared on HBO’s Game of Thrones, can now be seen opposite Sylvester Stallone in Bullet to the Head.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens Aug. 1, 2014.

I think Jason will do great as Drax the Destroyer.  Also looking forward to his other two films:
    Road to Paloma, and Wolves.

Not quite convinced by this one, not that I have anything against Mamoa, but given Drax has a daughter who I’d place at 30ish, I’ve always imagined him as as about 50-60ish, which Mamoa is no way near.

Why is this guy getting work? He is SUCH a horrible actor.

Yeah, except he’s been killed and ressurected at least 3 times… Last time was in a different body form, and different powers… So that’s not really an issue

Well it’s not a fundemental problem sure, but I’d just go with someone a bit older, if nothing else, that then distances him a bit from similar green, blade wielding angry person Gamora.  Drax in GotG was the old, veteran zealot on the team, having him be a bit younger makes him lose a bit of the gravitas that lets him get away with the whole “this may appear psychotic but I know what I’m doing” thing.

Contradicting my other bit about Moondragon, my suspician is they’ll drop the Arthur Douglas angle anyway, and have him be effectively Space-Frankenstein built to kill Thanos.  If they were going to include Arthur Douglas, perhaps a co-pilot of Quills who dies at the start of the film, and parts of him are used to finish/repair Drax.
