Axel-In-Charge: Extending "Secret Wars," Excitement for a "Totally Awesome Hulk"
Bryan Fuller is returning to the small screen with his new thriller Hannibal, and the trailer for the series looks fantastic. There doesn’t seem to be much of Fuller’s cutesy, campy aesthetic at play here, which amps up the horror element of Hannibal that much more.
Also newly released is a poster for the NBC series, which can be seen to the right. It’s a bit more playful than the trailer, showing Mads Mikkelsen as the title character wiping his mouth with a napkin. While this alone wouldn’t mean much, the iconic name “Hannibal” — a serial killer who eats people! — is in big block letters at the bottom of the poster. Good work, NBC marketing team.
Fuller created Hannibal based on Thomas Harris’ famous genius, serial killer and cannibal seen in The Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and other films. The series takes a look at a younger Lecter (Mikkelsen), who uses his skills as a psychologist to help FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and his team track down criminals. Laurence Fishburne, Scott Thompson and Caroline Dhavernas have joined the cast as full-timers along with guests Gillian Anderson and Lance Henriksen.
Hannibal premieres April 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Hopefully it fares a bit better than the last new show that was at that time slot, Do No Harm, which was canceled after only two episodes.
