Why is Tony Wearing an A.I.M. Shirt in New Iron Man 3 Photo?

Iron Man 3 is getting some major love in the upcoming issue of Empire, and the kind folks at SuperHeroHype have taken scans of the magazine’s new images to let us know what we’re in for. As you can see the from the above image of Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle, Tony Stark isn’t looking so good.

But what’s more important than his black eye here is the he’s wearing an A.I.M. shirt. Fans of the Iron Man comics will recognize the Advanced Idea Mechanics logo, although there’s no confirmation that the organization’s involvement in Iron Man 3‘s plot means M.O.D.O.K. will be a part of the story. A.I.M’s inclusion in the sequel was confirmed in June in photos from the Wilmington, North Carolina, set.

Also among these new images is a shot of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts standing next to Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian. Looks like they’ll at least be on speaking terms before Killian (presumably) goes on to be one of the movie’s villains.

Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 also stars Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. It opens May 3. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Evidence of my age – My first thought at reading the headline was, “Maybe it’s some one-off gag where Tony Stark buys America On-Line and resurrects their instant messenger program.”

I got the impression from the earlier picture than AIM is at least initially posing as a legitimate organisation in public, possibly with the evil science bits being secret?

I think having A.I.M. being mentioned is just cross-synergy set-up for Captain America 2, after all the man who will become MODOK was in the first Cap movie and is already listed as being in the upcoming second.

More like your lack of comic-book geekiness.

Nope, you’re thinking of Arnim Zola

  • Greg N

    Zola isn’t MODOK

I Can’t wait For This Movie

Ah, one can forgive the error as they do have similarities in their tv screen on body appearances.
