Soule Finds a Weakness in the Afterlife, Discusses Surprise "Inhuman" Return
David Yates signed on to direct Tarzan in November, but there have been few new details about the project since. Last we heard, Alexander Skarsgard was a favorite for the title role, and now it turns out an actress is being eyed to play Jane.
The New York Post reports that Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain is “the first choice to play Jane,” Tarzan’s love interest, in the new movie. The outlet confirms Skarsgard is still “in the running” for Tarzan, while Samuel L. Jackson remains “rumored to play an ex-mercenary who helps Tarzan save the Congo from a vicious warlord.” He was previously described as “a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans.” That’s quite an ambitious cast, and it remains to be seen whether Warner Bros. can bring the four talented stars together.
According to an earlier report, Tarzan will center on John Clayton III, the famous “ape man” Tarzan, years after he’s re-assimilated into English society. Asked by Queen Victoria to investigate “the goings-on in the Congo,” he teams with a former mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the country from a warlord who controls a massive diamond mine.
The movie is expected to start shooting over the summer, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
