Enterprise Surfaces in Poster For Star Trek Into Darkness

In the wake of the latest teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness, Paramount Pictures has released a dramatic new poster of the Enterprise emerging from the ocean, certainly the most memorable sequence from any of the trailers to date. (Cue another round of debate as to whether its hull could withstand the water pressure.)

In summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Trek Into Darkness stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood and Peter Weller. The film opens May 17.

Update: It appears as if it’s a fan-made poster — a very impressive one at that.

So much for Star Trek being an optimistic view of our future.

I don’t know it seems like it’s keeping pace with the original series in one regard: if some was introduced as the one of the best and brightest Starfleet or the Federation had to offer you could guarantee that by the end of the episode, they would go nuts and try to destroy Jim, the enterprise, the federation etc. (See Commodore Decker, Captain Tracey, Garth of Izar, Dr. Daystrom). It seems Starfleet and the Federation has a serious issue in the original series with attacks from within.  In that regard it doesn’t seem to be presenting any more or less of a pessimistic view of the future than the original series did.

I think it’s fan made. This poster exists since 2012 on the web. But has never been officially shared by paramount or star trek (just look at their facebook pages). Check your sources.

    Yeah, it’s fake

It should just be called “Into Darkness,” because these are not STAR TREK movies. Jar Jar Abrams is a hack who’s just using an already established franchise to tell his own generic stories.

to boldly go where no man has gone before……. the ocean, England, and San Fransisco…..

Space Battleship Yamato wants it’s badass launch motif back.

    “Simpsons did it!”

Roddenberry’s Enterprise wouldn’t be atmosphere flight capable.

Presumably the only real threat to the hull integrity would be really strong gravitational pull, such as near a sun, white dwarf matter, or perhaps in an atmosphere. The water pressure of an ocean wouldn’t crush the ship.

I thought his first ST movie was great, though I’m not initially keen on the particular inclusion of the mirror universe into the storyline.
