Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms Fourth Season For Sherlock

With production finally set to begin Monday on Season 3 of Sherlock, star Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed there will indeed be a fourth season of the hit BBC1 drama.

“We’ve agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that,” he told Radio Times. “All I know at the moment is I’m doing these three [episodes of the upcoming series] and another three [episodes, for Season 4].”

That naturally comes as great news to fans of the series, created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, which stars Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson in 21st-century London. Although there had been no official announcements about the future of Sherlock, rumors persisted that Season 3 could be the last, in large part because of the increasingly busy schedules of the two stars.

When asked by Radio Times about continuing beyond the fourth season, Cumberbatch replied, “”It just depends on Martin and I’s availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven’s ability. I’d love to keep it going.”

Sherlock‘s third season will debut this fall in the United Kingdom and likely in early 2014 in the United States.

Yes awesome! Just don’t do something crazy and make Sherlock and Watson gay lovers or something. Not that I’m against homosexual television characters or anything. But I just don’t believe that this version of Sherlock Holmes can have sexual feelings for anyone. Hes like Sheldon from the big bang theory in that he’s kind of asexual or grown beyond basic social biological imperatives like mating. If they ever make future interpretations of Sherlock, I’m fine with him having love interests both male or female but just not in this show.
