Man of Steel Offers Best Look Yet of Amy Adams as Lois Lane

man of steel total film amy adams henry cavill Lois Lane has never been afraid to stand side-by-side with Superman, but some people wondered if Amy Adams would have the gravitas to fill the role in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman film reboot Man of Steel. However, if this Total Film cover is any indicator, she’s up for the task.

We’ve seen Adams as Lois Lane in the trailers, but only once before in an official photo (a black-and-white one at that). This also marks the first promotional still that showing her with Henry Cavill’s Superman.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis of the Warner Bros. film, which opens June 14:

Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Man of Steel also stars Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy.

He looks good, but the costume still isn’t winning me over; it looks too…I don’t know…maybe, shiny or like something out of those pics we saw of the aborted Nic Cage Superman movie.  Maybe cheap is the word I’m looking for.  I can’t quite place my finger on it, except to note I’ve not big on the material I guess. I don’t mind the “S” or the lack of red trunks or the color; it’s really just the material that looks chintzy.

  • Flash Baxter

Forget the suit, something needs to be done with his hair.

  • Akkadiannumen

She’ll probably be a pretty decent Lois. That said, I still think she’d be much better as Lana Lang.

  • Shalaan10

Exactly what I was about to say

  • justin

NO texture less blank bullshit material like what we have aways gotten is what looks cheap this looks fucking badass

  • Monkeyhelpertrainer

    He is balding already?

  • Michael Fitz-Gibbon

Why do both Mary Jane Watson and Lois Lane have to be uggos?

I’m no prize either, but I’m not supposed to be a knockout comic book character. Adams is pretty, but Lois Lane pretty? Nope.

  • Squashua

Superman has a severe case of giraffe neck.

  • Shakunaifu

I’ll give you that new mary jane doesn’t do anything for me but Amy is freaking gorgeous and fantastic actress in my opinion. We’ll have to wait and see the movie to be able to perfectly judge in the end.

  • Bsavini781

Superman’s costume is suposed to inspire trust amongst other things, this costume inspires nothing. It is dark and danky, Superman is supposed to be bright and hopeful. Epic Fail

  • Mary229

I would never waste an actress of her caliber and power in the role of Lana Lang.  And honestly…I don’t see it.   Lana isn’t a particularly sweet character.  Not really.

Amy has alot of depth and inner power.  She’s also intensely ambitious professionally.  Look at what she’s done in 7 years.   She was a poor kid with no connections who pushed her way to the top and got 4 Oscar noms in 7 years.  That’s incredible.  How could someone with that much ambition be anyone BUT Lois Lane?

  • Mary229

Wow, aren’t you a prize human being?

First off,  Amy Adams is a beautiful woman.  Second, Lois Lane pretty?  What does that even mean?  Lois Lane isn’t supposed to be a supermodel.  She’s a career woman.  Superman doesn’t fall in love with her because she’s the hottest girl he knows and why would you think Clark Kent of all men would be that shallow?  Did it ever occur to you that sometimes loves goes deeper?

  • Mary229

Adams is gorgeous, I agree.  But go easy on Shailene.  She is also a lovely young woman.

  • Richie Simonsen

Costume looks as stupid as comic book one right now but hey at least lois and superman unlike idiot comics.

  • Michael Fitz-Gibbon

Lois Lane has always been attractive in the comics and cartoons. Maybe not super model attractive, but not plain.

Love goes deeper, yes. But if you’re going to play the character, you have to at least resemble the part in some way, even vaguely. Is it shallow to say I would reject a fat guy playing Batman or an 90 year old acting as Green Lantern (though they couldn’t be worse than Ryan Reynolds)?

I have no problem with how she looks as a person. But she’s no Lois Lane. I’m pretty gross myself, but I’m not looking to play a character who is attractive. I’m no prize myself, but I’m not looking to be an attractive character.

  • Greg Sanders

Yeah, hopefully that costume looks better on film. These promotional materials make it look horrendous. Get rid of the speedos, I don’t care about that, and I love the design of the ‘S’, but the textures on the suit make it look flimsy and less regal. Perhaps, since he’s suppose to be so important, they could’ve gone with a different textured suit. I understand no spandex, I’m not asking for that, but this doesn’t appear to be any sort of improvement. And the yellow behind the ‘S’ is far to dull, really, the whole uniform is dull. He doesn’t seem to shine. It’s far too muddy.

  • Lilacruz45

your reasoning makes no sense at all!LOL!

  • jack

And amy adams does not resemble Lois?!!  for your info the first live action Lois Lane of the 1950’s  actress Noeil Neil was a redhead,  Joan Seigel which the Lois Lane character was based on was a redhead and there are countless drawing of Post crisis comics Lois Lane as a redhead.  So your reasoning that Amy does not look like Lois Lane is faulty.    And again, your reasoning so blatantly stupid and laugh worthy!lol!

  • Aldimes

My problem with the suit is, how can you be a shining beacon of hope when your outfit is such a gloomy colour? And making it shiny doesnt solve the problem. The thinking behind this is that darker equal serious and makes him deeper. Shallow thinking, from people who want to minimise the comicbookiness of the character. Lois and Clark got it right: Clark is who he is, Superman is what he can do. Whatever personal problems or conflicts he’s having, the face he presents to the public is optimistic and bright, and the suit should reflect this.

  • chien_clean

They could at least have given her dark hair.

  • Mordalo

Call me unimpressed, but I’m feeling as much love for this movie as I did for Amazing Spider-Man…and I’ve yet to see that one, either.

  • Yanks5179

I’m sorry, was that English?  You seem to be trying to communicate…

Kidding.  I disagree that this looks badass because it looks “slimy” almost, cheap like the suits the Kryptonians wore in Superman II, vinyl almost.

  • mdk

Looks like Amy Adams raided Margot Kidder’s old clothes-storage bags. What modern, 21st Century woman goes around in a skirt/blouse/vest combo? And the Supersuit looks greasy, like those rubber octopus toys that you throw against a wall or window and they sort of stick, then roll down. Creepy.

  • Jred

Maybe this is all for marketing purposes after the movie bombs. He looks exactly like the action figure i had as a kid…PLASTIC!

  • Talisa

Hmm yeah they could have done that. I mean, wasn’t Lois originally a brunette in the comics as in the other series?

  • chien_clean

Lois Lane was always known as a dark hair character. It changed a bit in the comics around the 80s or so when John Byrne did his revamp. I thought it made her look too much like Mary Jane Watson with the redish brown hair. But the iconic Lois Lane is a dark hair woman, a lot of time black.

  • chien_clean

I don’t see Amy as ambitous at all. If you talk to her, she’s more like a hippie, her outlook is closer to theatre actors who just enjoy working.

  • Bulldog

Maybe i missed it but where is there son at?
