Karl Urban will reteam with his Star Trek director for Human, the futuristic Fox pilot from J.J. Abrams and former Fringe showrunner J.H. Wyman.

He joins Friday Night Lights alum Minka Kelly, whose casting was announced only yesterday, Michael Ealy (Common Law), Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Michael Irby (The Unit) and Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean).

Characterized as an action-filled buddy cop drama, the thriller is set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.

TVLine reports Urban will star as John Kennex, “a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission left him critically injured.” He’s partnered with Ealy’s Dorian, an android detective “who, ironically, has a better grasp of humanity than he does.”
