Lone Ranger Japanese Trailer Light on Dialogue, Heavy on Booms

Is it possible we’re at the beginning of a Western revival? Quentin Tarrantino seemed to kick-start interest in the drama with Django Unchained, which he won an Academy Award for best original screenplay. Meanwhile, director Gore Verbinski has been hard at work with stars Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp on Disney’s The Lone Ranger, whichlooks to rejuvenate the pulp hereo, who has began life 80 years ago on a radio serial.

The new Japanese trailer for the film features many of the same scenes from the Super Bowl ad, but with an earlier focus on Depp’s Tonto, and some all new bits, like Helena Bonham Carter using some kind of gun hidden on her body.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger also stars Jason E. Hill, Barry Pepper, William Fitchner, James Badge Dale, Tom Wilkinson and Ruth Wilson. It opens July 3.
