Safety Not Guaranteed Director Signs on to Helm Jurassic Park 4

Jurassic-Park

Most directors don’t go from making a low-budget indie film debut to boarding one of the biggest franchises of all time, but Colin Trevorrow apparently isn’t most directors. Deadline reports Universal Pictures has snatched up the Safety Not Guaranteed helmer for Jurassic Park 4 after talks with the filmmaker in which he expressed a deep love of the series and characters.

Safety Not Guaranteed stars Mark Duplass (The League) as a guy looking for someone to travel through time with him. Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation) interns for a magazine that’s doing a story on this wacky story and gets in good with Duplass’s character. New Girl‘s Jake Johnson and Jeff Garlin also stars.

As far as Jurassic Park 4 goes, no details have been revealed about the script, penned by Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two films in the series, is on board to executive produce.

Jurassic Park 4 is debuts in 3D on June 13, 2014.

The question is: which obscure dinosaur will this one give a chance in the spotlight? The first one gave the world its first sight of the velociraptor (which was actually more of a utahraptor). The third movie used Spinosaurus. The Lost World, sadly, didn’t have a break-out dinosaur. I would like to see this one put carnotaurus in the spotlight, maybe.

TJ, you say “Most directors don’t go from making a low-budget indie film debut to boarding one of the biggest franchises of all time” but isn’t this common now with Marc Webb (Amazing Spider-Man), Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace)?
