CBR TV: Palahniuk & Mack Talk "Fight Club 2," Sensitive Subjects & Cover Controversies
Rainn Wilson is looking to make the jump from cranky paper salesman to cranky cop with the new televsion season. TVLine reports the actor best known for playing Dwight Schrute on The Office has signed on to star as a detective in Hart Hanson’s CBS pilot Backstrom.
The project, which moved to the pilot stage in January, features Wilson as “an overweight, offensive and irascible” police detective who’s looking to change his life. He’s joined by Detective John Almond (24‘s Dennis Haysbert), civilian Nadia (Beatrice Rosen of Cuts) and forensics boss Sgt. Peter Niedermayer (Life Unexpected‘s Kristoffer Polaha).
The show is based on a series of Swedish novels written by Leif G.W. Persson, who will also serve as an executive producer. With The Office recently wrapped after nine seasons and the proposed Dwight spinoff dubbed The Farm not moving past the backdoor pilot, Wilson is free to pursue new projects.
