Harrison Ford ‘Looking Forward’ to Reprising His Star Wars Role

Harrison Ford is drawn to iconic roles. He’s has the obvious ones like Indiana Jones under his fedora, but more recently he’s played Branch Rickey, the baseball manager who hired Jackie Robinson, in 42, and  Col. Hyrum Graff in Ender’s Game. He even joined the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues as an old-school newsman.

But the role everyone’s waiting to hear about is whether he’ll return as Han Solo in director J.J. Abarms’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

WGN News talked with Ford on the red carpet of an event honoring the hometown hero and got right down to the matter of Star Wars and the involvement of fellow original cast members Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. To the question of whether the old gang is getting back together, the actor responded, “I think it’s almost true. I’m looking forward to it … It’s not in the bag yet, but I think it’s happening.”

The Internet is abuzz with rumors that Ford, Hamill and Fisher will join the cast of the new film. Star Wars creator George Lucas recently explained that a deal with the three actors was all but finalized before Disney purchased Lucasfilm, but that the merger pushed things back a bit. It sounds like everything’s still being worked out, but that all three stars are interested in returning to the galaxy far, far away.

Who cares this was a stupid idea from the start.

I’m really looking forward to Episode VII and beyond. For years, the idea of a sequel trilogy was considered wishful thinking, but now it’s becoming a reality. I think it’s great to have Hamill, Ford, and Fisher back to pass the torch to a new generation of heroes.
