The first look at Patrick Stewart on the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past has arrived, and it’s about as revealing as that first glimpse of Ian McKellen was. Once again it director Bryan Singer who showed the teaser of the much-anticipated Days of Future Past actor, and used the tweet to announce some big news.
“Picture before picture. Tomorrow it begins,” he tweeted yesterday, meaning that Days of Future Past starts filming today. The shot shows someone taking a picture of Stewart in costume.
X-Men: Days of Future Past takes its name from the 1981 Marvel comics story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne depicting a timeline created by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from assassinating a U.S. senator. In that alternate future, the giant robotic Sentinels have become the de facto rulers of the United States, where mutants are hunted down and placed in internment camps. McKellen will appear in the film along with Michael Fassbender who played Magneto in the 60s-set X-Men: First Class which lends much of its cast to this film which Singer intends to use as a way to tie together all previous X-movies including the two he directed.
The film, which opens July 18, 2014, also stars James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage and more.
