The New York Times reports that beginning May 18, customers at 3,718 Walmart stores in the United States will be able to purchase advanced tickets to a special screening of Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel, scheduled for a day before the film’s June 14 wide release. The tickets come with a code to pre-order the Man of Steel on Blu-ray or DVD and to download a digital comic written by screenwriter David S. Goyer.
Director Zack Snyder’s franchise reboot generated significant buzz last week following the release of an action-packied theatrical trailer, but this promotional push was launched in hopes of selling roughly 1 million tickets well before the film’s opening.
“You hear these staggering numbers of how many people walk through a Walmart every day, and that gives us an exposure that we really can’t put a dollar number on,” said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy and Harry Lennix as General Swanwick.
