Lara Pulver’s Da Vinci’s Demons character Clarice Orsini is much more than meets the eye. In a clip from tonight’s episode “The Prisoner,” presented exclusively by Spinoff Online, viewers get to see an inside look at how Clarice deals with her husband Lorenzo Medici behind closed doors.
It’s no secret Lorenzo is having an affair with Lucrezia Donati — not even from his wife. But that doesn’t stop Clarice from loving him or supporting him, so long as he knows that his place is by her side. “I understand your need for escape, Lorenzo; to feel apart from your responsibility. You can have that escape, but you do have to come back,” she says in the clip.
Created by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel), the new Starz historical fantasy explores the untold story of Leonardo da Vinci, played by Tom Riley. Da Vinci’s Demons was renewed last week for a second season.
Spinoff recently had the chance to speak with Pulver about Clarice, and even though we haven’t seen much of her so far in Season 1. the actress promised that her character will “be literally running Florence” by Season 2. Pulver also spoke about Clarice’s relationship with her husband, which she says is closer than his affair might lead viewers to realize.
“She’s his main ally and his confidant,” she said. “She’s a shrewd politician and a great businesswoman herself, so I think therefore her love and support is integral in them succeeding, really, and being able to defend and protect their family and the city of Florence.”
Da Vinci’s Demons airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Starz.
