MTV Orders Scream TV Pilot

Horror fans well-accustomed to remakes — at this point, pretty much nothing is sacred. You either let allow it to get you bent out of shape or understand that you always have the original to go back to.

Lately it’s been TV’s turn to get in on the horror-remake game. There are already small-screen versions of Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates, but they soon be joined by a certain ghostface killer who first slashed his way through a group of high school students in 1996′s Scream.

MTV announced it has greenlit the Dimension Films pilot for a television adaptation initially rumored last summer. Created by writer Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, The Following) and director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Scream spawned three sequels. The cable network is in talks with Craven to helm the pilot, which is planned for a summer 2014 debut.

I LOVE Scream, so I am excited for this. I wonder if they will recast the characters from the movie, or if it’ll be a pseudo-sequel with brand new characters (and potential cameos from Neve Campbell et al.).

Either way, each episode should end with a character getting killed off. That’s the best way to maintain intrigue in a serial killer murder mystery (see also: Harper’s Island).

I saw the first Scream not long after it first came out in a big ‘dollar’ theater and it was great fun. Really unexpected considering how horror films had been going at the time. People actually screamed at it.

Ya know, at first I was a little worried… but considering how good Teen Wolf is, I’m excited to see what’ll happen!
