DC Comics' "Rebirth" Character Designs for Batman, Wonder Woman and More
Quvenzhane Wallis’ Annie might have found her Daddy Warbucks.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned Jamie Foxx is being courted to play the adult male role in the upcoming Will Gluck adaptation of Annie. Instead of Daddy Warbucks, the character will be named Benjamin Stacks. Sony Pictures has already offered Foxx a deal, and the Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor’s team is reportedly beginning to negotiate.
Beasts of the Southern Wild star Wallis is an exciting choice to play the title character in the comic strip-turned musical, and she seems like she could easily face off against a respected actor like Foxx on the big screen. Wallis won the hearts of film lovers and proved that she is not one to be trifled with as she made the awards-show rounds for Beasts.
Annie was originally supposed to star Willow Smith, but she eventually passed on the project. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are still producing the movie along with Jay-Z. Also producing are Marcy Media’s Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith. Gluck recently did a revision on the Annie script that was originally wirrten by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2014.
