Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Confirmed For The Avengers 2

avengers origins-quicksilver-sw In case there was any doubt that writer/director Joss Whedon was referring to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch last week when he teased there’s “a brother-sister act” in The Avengers 2, we now have confirmation.

According to Entertainment Weekly, an unnamed source states the twin children of Magneto will indeed join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Marvel’s 2015 sequel. When the question was posed to studio President Kevin Feige, he would only say, “I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now.”

Of course, that does confirm Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch appear in Whedon’s first take on the script, which the writer acknowledged is “an evolution, and that goes on in editing,  it goes on all through shooting and it never stops. [...] You do come to a point where you all agree, OK … I’ve got these two characters — my two favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act, they’re in the movie, that’s exciting — you lock certain things in. But then, there’s a certain fluidity …”

Judging by Whedon’s enthusiasm, it seems likely Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be among those things locked in throughout the development process.

While Fox owns the film rights to the X-Men franchise, Feige indicated in April 2012 that, presumably because of the characters’ long histories with the Avengers — they joined the team within a year of their introduction as X-Men villains — Marvel could use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as well.

“It’s a little complicated,” he said, “but if they [Fox] want to use them in the X-Men movie they could, [but] if we want to use them in The Avengers movie, we could.”

The Avengers 2 opens May 1, 2015.

That would be hilarious if Marvel finds a way to successfully get their third rate Flash-ripoff on the screen before DC can actually do the same with the Flash.

How is it a confirmation when Feige says ”I’m not confirming or denying”? It’s more of a strong implication if anything.

  • BIGBADBOBO

YES YES BEST FUCKING NEWS EVER. PUT THEM IN THE DAMN MOVIE NOW.

  • nerdbasher

Third rate? Why not second rate?

    Right on!

  • PietroMaximoff

i would have loved to see them in some X-Men movie (like days of future past), but still, so glad they’re getting the Avengers treatment!!
i hope they somehow refer to their heritage and their time in the Brotherhood…

FYI, QS owned Flash in the crossovers cause there was no speed force for the flash to tap into. and also, Quicksilver has a origin and story line 1000x better than any of the Flashes

  • Joseph

Second rate sounded too good for him due to my irrational personal hate for the character, I guess.

  • The One and Only

Didn’t Quicksilver already have a cameo in X-MEN ORIGINS:WOLVERINE as one of the mutants in Stryker’s base. He was all tied up in his jail cell thrashing around.

They never really confirmed anything about it being him (never mentioned his name or even named him in the credits). Either way I like that they’re finally being portrayed in other media as they were best known in the comics. They’ve spent probably 95% of their time as Avengers but because they first showed up as Brotherhood for like… 5 issues (if that), Fox got them and that’s how anyone watching the cartoons knows them.

Well if they can’t say “Mutant” then Marvel Studios could just present them as “Metahumans” FOX had 13 years to do something with these characters. Which I doubt they would’ve done the 2 characters justice anyway so I’m glad they’re aboard MCU. It’s a great opportunity to show FOX how it’s done.

I’ve never cared for Quicksilver, having only read him in Avengers Academy, or the Scarlet Witch, who I only care about due to House of M (and how that derailed basically everything and was pointless outside of Decimation), so I don’t really care. What worries me is how Whedon is already thinking of expanding them cast. Hawkeye and Widow were pretty bland in the first film, with little personality, and I fear these two might end up the same without already being established like the other characters.

  • Adam Walters

I hope one of the other Avengers asks about their pasts and Fury tells them it’s classified.

  • Huskie

I’d be okay with no Natasha in the 2nd Avengers. Could see her being used elsewhere anyway with the Winter Solider being the focus of the 2nd Cap flick. I’d be nice if they could get the Wasp or Captain Marvel in too though so there’s more than one woman on the team

  • Joseph

Take it easy. I don’t care for the character is all, never did, and his costume is terrible. I’m glad you like him though.

  • Joseph

A reasonable point, but it’s a sequel so it’s got to be bigger and there is no way they weren’t going to add to the cast. My first thought is they will head towards an Avengers movie lineup similar to the first wholesale change in the book – QS, Witch, Cap, Hawkeye – and cut down on the screentime for the big 3 (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor). Might be thinking that will prevent the audience (and actors, I guess) getting burnt out on the main characters.

Is there no love for Cap’s cooky quartet?

  • KW

I think Quicksilver’s suit is damn sweet. Flash’s suit could not be more bland, and is basically the exact same suit as Shazam, minus the cape.

  • Nick

I really don’t see how they can do these characters justice without
having access to Magneto. So much of who they are is directly tied to
being his children. Everything they have ever done is either because
of, in response to, or in spite of him. They are driven to define
themselves in contrast with everyone’s preconceptions about being the
offspring of a man most define as a terrorist.

  • Sugargl1der

Then you really should pick up some back issues, particularly anything Peter David has done with Quicksilver in it, or going much farther back, during Roy Thomas and later, David Michelinie’s runs on the Avengers. He’s a very complex and compelling character, moreso than several of the Avengers already represented.

  • Sugargl1der

You have to remember that it was twenty years or more (real time) before anybody knew or acknowledged they were Magneto’s kids. And I think they were both very interesting characters up till then, as well.

  • Joseph

To be fair I did like a lot of what Peter David did with him. Like I said earlier, most of my dislike is irrational and goes back to feelings I had about him when I first read him in 70s era Avengers.

dick head piedro is awesome!!! third rate? u r a fucking massive tool

  • Adit

Haha nice try, i will be very amazed if avengers 2 use scarlet and quicksil, but c’mon marvel give us your best, avengers and x-men can be together,,, everything can happen with money, i imagine if this will be the bright future for house of m or AvX, btw thx marvel you created the best ever superhero lineup :)

  • Todd

Oh joy. When DC finally makes a Flash movie we get to look forward to the fake nerds saying DC copied Marvel and then again when Justice League comes out lol.

  • http://twitter.com/XSpectreGreyX XSpectreGreyX

Expanding the cast would be great, but I hope that involves removing some characters (unlikely, due to popularity) and developing some new ones.
